I have used the cylinder type of ring compressors for some time. I was rebuilding an engine that was sleeved and the pistons were a tight fit. I couldn't get the rings compressed enough to go down the sleeve with the cylindrical type compressor. I found some other compressors that were $100+. Trying to save some money, I took a chance on this one, and it works flawlessly. I can drop a piston down into the cylinder nearly four times as fast as I could with the cylindrical compressor as the ratcheting handle only takes a squeeze or two to completely compress the rings. Using the cylindrical compressor, I would be fighting the ratcheting handle trying to completely compress the rings, and what a pain if there is a little oil on my hands. I should have purchased this years ago.
